No. 1 UCLA Sweeps No. 14 Stanford, Improves to 20-0

STANFORD, Calif. โ The No. 1 UCLA men's volleyball program earned a 3-0 win at No. 14 Stanford in an MPSF conference match on Saturday evening. Set scores were 25-22, 25-21, 25-22 on the night.
With the win, UCLA moves to 20-0 for the first time since 1984, and 7-0 in MPSF conference play.
Offensively, both Zach Rama and Sean Kelly recorded double-digit kills. Rama tallied a game-high 12 kills, while Kelly added 11 kills on the night, and senior setter Andrew Rowan had 37 assists on the night.
As a team, the Bruins hit .380, while limiting Stanford (9-10, 6-2 MPSF) to a .292 hitting percentage. Defensively, Rowan led the way with 3 blocks, while David Decker and Chris Connelly had four digs each.
In the opening set, Rama came out strongly, tallying seven kills and two service aces in the set. Kills from middle blocker Cameron Thorne and Rama gave the Bruins an 11-8 advantage early on.
Midway through the set Rama recorded another kill to put UCLA up 19-15, forcing a Stanford timeout. Out of the timeout, the Bruins closed out the set winning 25-22, courtesy of a block from Kelly and Thorne to take a 1-0 sets lead.
As for the second set, the Bruins took a 4-1 advantage early on after both Kelly and Rama tallied two kills. Stanford responded with a 7-4 run to tie the set at 8-8.
The sides traded points throughout the majority of the set as the score was tied at 17-17. A kill from Decker, followed by an ace from the redshirt junior, gave UCLA a 19-18 lead. Kelly added another kill to push the Bruins in front 20-18.
Wong Diallo ended the second set with a kill to give the Bruins the set 25-22, and a 2-0 sets lead heading to the third set.
In the third set middle blocker Christopher Hersh came in to the match for Micah Wong Diallo. An ace from Rama pushed the Bruins in front early on, 5-4.
A 5-0 Bruins run gave UCLA a 19-13 lead midway through the set. A Kelly kill and a Rama ace started the run before a Stanford attack error was followed by kills from Decker and Hersh to cap the 5-0 run.
UCLA ended the third set 25-21 when a Stanford serve went wide, giving UCLA the match 3-0.
Up Next: UCLA will play at No. 7 Pepperdine on Thursday, April 2. First serve is set for 6 pm PT from the Firestone Fieldhouse in Malibu, California, and the match will be broadcast on B1G+.
