No. 1 UCLA Completes Sixth Straight Big Ten Sweep With 9-2 Win at Rutgers
April 12, 2026 | Baseball
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The No. 1-ranked UCLA baseball team closed out its sixth straight Big Ten sweep with a commanding 9-2 win over Rutgers in Sunday's series finale at Bainton Field.
The Bruins (33-2, 18-0 Big Ten) pushed their nation-leading winning streak to 27 games and remained perfect in conference play.
All nine starters recorded hits as UCLA piled up 11 knocks on the afternoon. Cashel Dugger and Aiden Aguayo paced the offense with three-hit performances, while Will Gasparino added a two-hit day.
Landon Stump (2-0) turned in one of the best outings of his career, firing six shutout innings on just 64 pitches. The right-hander allowed only one hit, struck out five, and faced one batter over the minimum in a masterfully efficient performance that resulted in his third win of the season.
UCLA grabbed the lead in the top of the second when Gasparino legged out an infield single and Aguayo followed by ripping a triple into the gap, scoring him from first.
UCLA broke the game open with a four-run fourth, using two hits and a pair of Rutgers errors to seize control. Gasparino opened the inning with a walk, Dugger followed with a single to right, and Espinoza drove in the first run with a double down the right-field line. Aguayo added two more when his grounder to short was thrown away, and Cholowsky brought another run around after scorching a ball down the left-field line that the third baseman was unable to handle.
Martin then led off the fifth by smacking an opposite-field solo homer, and base hits from Dugger and Brennan pushed the cushion to seven.
After Stump exited following six strong innings, Rutgers finally broke through against the bullpen, pushing across two runs in the seventh.
UCLA answered in the eighth, as West led off with a sharp single to left, stole second, and later came home on a Cholowsky sacrifice fly to restore a bit of breathing room. The Bruins tacked on one more in the ninth when Gasparino reached on an infield hit and Aguayo drove him home with a two-out base hit through the right side.
Easton Hawk closed it down in the ninth, spinning a perfect frame to clinch the victory for UCLA.
The Bruins return to Jackie Robinson Stadium on Tuesday, April 14, opening an eight-game homestand with UC Santa Barbara. First pitch is set for 7 p.m. PT, with national coverage on Big Ten Network.
