No. 16 Women's Tennis Posts 4-1 Win at Northwestern

EVANSTON, Ill. โ The 16th-ranked UCLA women's tennis team recovered from an early deficit to beat Northwestern 4-1 in Big Ten Conference play Sunday at Combe Tennis Center. The win completed a road sweep for the Bruins, who blanked league foe Illinois Friday.
UCLA (13-6, 7-4 Big Ten) fell behind 1-0, but bounced back emphatically with straight-set singles victories by Mayu Crossley, Bianca Fernandez, Anne-Christine Lutkemeyer and clincher Ahmani Guichard. Northwestern (12-10, 5-6) claimed the doubles point, surrendering three total games.
The Wildcats started strong on the top doubles court, where No. 46 Erica Jessel/Margot Phantala defeated No. 35 Olivia Center/Kate Fakih 6-1. They secured the initial point moments later with Neena Feldman/Marelie Raath topping Crossley/Lutkemeyer 6-2 on Court 2.
The Bruins seized five singles first sets. No. 43 Crossley raced out to her eighth consecutive straight-set singles win, beating Feldman 6-0, 6-1 on Court 2.
No. 17 Lutkemeyer and Fernandez gave up just three total games each to help UCLA take and extend the lead. Lutkemeyer turned in her eighth ranked victory of the season, knocking off No. 90 Phanthala by a 6-1, 6-2 margin on Court 1. Fernandez then took down Mika Dagan Fruchtman 6-3, 6-0 on Court 4.
Guichard charged back from a lost first set to best Jessel 2-6, 6-1, 6-4 on Court 5, pocketing the fourth point. Guichard's second clincher of the season was also her second in the past four matches.
The Bruins return home to finish out the regular season with Indiana and Purdue. Indiana visits Los Angeles Tennis Center Friday, April 17 at 1 p.m. PT. Purdue drops in Saturday, April 18 at 12 p.m.
