No. 22 Men's Tennis Beats Penn State 6-1

LOS ANGELES โ The 22nd-ranked UCLA men's tennis team rolled to a 6-1 victory against Penn State Saturday in Big Ten Conference competition at Los Angeles Tennis Center. The Bruins bounced back emphatically from a loss to No. 1 Ohio State fewer than 24 hours earlier.
Cassius Chinlund, Andy Nguyen, Bengt Reinhard and Emon van Loben Sels each played at a career-high position in the singles lineup and was victorious. Aadarsh Tripathi also won for the Bruins (13-5, 7-2 Big Ten). The Nittany Lions (14-10, 2-7) got on the scoreboard thanks to Kyle Chesman.
UCLA captured the doubles point with a pair of 6-3 wins. No. 32 van Loben Sels/Spencer Johnson started matters by knocking off David Lindsay/Michael Wright on Court 1. Nguyen/Tripathi then handled Reiya Hattori/Eyal Shyovitz on Court 2 for the Bruin tandem's second clinching victory.
UCLA seized five singles first sets. Chinlund made quick work of Lindsay on Court 4, prevailing 6-2, 6-1. Chinlund is 12-3 in dual singles play (16-4 overall). Chesman cut the Penn State deficit in half on Court 6, where he beat Leo von Bismarck 6-1, 6-4. It was von Bismarck's first career appearance in a dual match.
No. 25 van Loben Sels earned a top-court win opposite California transfer Michael Wright, improving to 12-1 in dual play (19-5 overall) with his 6-4, 6-3 display. Nguyen then picked up his first clincher as a Bruin, beating Marcus Schoeman 6-2, 7-5 on Court 2.
Tripathi next finished off Hattori to the tune of 6-3, 6-4 on Court 3, joining Nguyen and van Loben Sels in achieving two-win days. Finally, Reinhard dealt Shyovitz a 6-3, 7-5 defeat on Court 5.
UCLA finishes out its home slate next weekend, when Illinois and Northwestern come to LATC. The Bruins meet the Fighting Illini Saturday, April 11 at 12 p.m. PT before taking on the Wildcats Sunday at 11 a.m.
