UCLA Women's T & F Ranked No. 2 In Nation

Jeanette Bolden's Bruin women's track and field team has moved up to No. 2 in the nation, after being ranked No. 3 the first two weeks of the season (the Bruin men are tied for No. 20). In first place in the women's Top 25 is USC, the defending NCAA Outdoor champion, with 98 points. Rounding out the Top 5 are No. 1 USC (98 points), No. 2 UCLA (64 points), No. 3 LSU/South Carolina (59 points) and No. 5 BYU (34 points).
On Saturday, May 4 at Drake Stadium, UCLA will host USC in the annual dual meet. Last Saturday (April 13) at Drake, the Bruin women defeated BYU in dual competition.
Other Pac-10 teams in this week's Trackwire women's Top 25 are: No. 9 (tie) Arizona, No. 14 (tie) Washington State/Oregon and No. 19 Stanford.
The Trackwire Top 25 is a power ranking of NCAA Div. I T & F teams. The ranking's methodology takes into account a variety of statistical predictors and is intended to project the outcome of the NCAA Div. I Outdoor T & F Championships. The scores provided with the rankings indicate each team's projected score based on formcharts for each NCAA event.
The 2002 NCAA Div. I Outdoor T & F championships will be held May 29-June 1 in Baton Rouge, LA. For the last five consecutive seasons, the Bruin women have placed in the top three at the NCAA Outdoor (2001, 2nd, 2000, 3rd, 1999, 2nd, 1998, 2nd, 1997, 3rd).
