Kristen Maloney Named UCLA/MET-Rx Student-Athlete of the Week

April 25, 2005

Senior Kristen Maloney (Pen Argyl, PA/Pen Argyl HS) of the UCLA Women's Gymnastics Team was selected as the UCLA/MET-Rx Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Apr. 18-24.

Maloney won the vault and beam titles and placed second in the all-around at the NCAA Championships. She earned first-team All-America honors in the all-around, vault, beam and floor to give her nine All-America awards for her illustrious career. Maloney also made history by becoming the first collegiate gymnast ever to perform a double layout full-out on the floor exercise and just the second ever to perform a laid-out double-twisting Yurchenko on vault.

The fifth-year senior who was competing on a sprained ankle, tied for the highest all-around score in the team finals (39.725), helping UCLA earn a fourth-place finish. Amongst her scores at the team finals was a 10.0 on floor exercise, her first on floor this season and her second overall on the year.

This is Maloney's third UCLA/MET-Rx Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and of her career.
