UCLA's Trevor Bauer Earns National, Pac-10 Weekly Awards

April 11, 2011
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - UCLA junior right-hander Trevor Bauer has earned Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week honors for the sixth time in his career and third week this season, as announced by the conference office on Monday.
Bauer has also secured Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week acclaim for the fifth time in his career and third week this season, as announced by Collegiate Baseball.
Bauer struck out 15 batters and issued just two walks, throwing his second complete game of the season Saturday to lead UCLA past Washington State, 10-3, in a Pac-10 game in Pullman, Wash. He hurled the seventh complete game of his career and tied the school record for most career victories (27, Alex Sanchez). He pushed his school record-leading career strikeout total to 354 and moved into seventh place on UCLA's career innings pitched list (301.1).
The native of Valencia, Calif., and former standout at Hart High School has recorded at least 10 strikeouts in seven of his eight starts this season. Bauer also earned Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week honors on March 7 and March 28 this season.
Bauer has gone 6-1 with a team-low 1.67 ERA and leads all Pac-10 pitchers with 97 strikeouts in a team-leading 64.2 innings (tied for second most in the Pac-10). He has limited the opposition to a Pac-10-low .150 batting average and is tied with two other pitchers for the conference lead in wins (six, with Sam Gaviglio of Oregon State and Kyle Simon of Arizona).
No. 23 UCLA returns to action with four home games this week. The Bruins host Long Beach State on Tuesday at 6 p.m. before opening a three-game Pac-10 series against Arizona on Friday at 6 p.m. Admission to Tuesday's home game costs $2, while tickets for this weekend's games cost $7 for adults and $5 for youth at the Jackie Robinson Stadium ticket booth.
