Summer 2002 — Advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2002 U.S. Amateur before losing 4&3 to eventual champion Ricky Barnes of Arizona … Posted rounds of 70-71—141 to tie for 28th in the stroke play format … Defeated Russ Cunningham of Dewitt, MI, in 14 holes in the first round and beat Brad Mooris 4&3 of Clay City, KY, in the second round … Won the Northern California Amateur at Pebble Beach with a 6&4 victory over Jason Higton of San Joaquin … Tied for third at 146 (73-73) in medal play … Tied for 31st at the Western Amateur with scores of 67-73-71-76—276, three-over par … Enters UCLA as the nation’s No.2 ranked junior amateur.
