Junior wide receiver Freddie Mitchell (Lakeland, FL/Kathleen HS) of the UCLA Football Team was selected as the UCLABruins.com Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Sept. 11-17.
Mitchell led UCLA to a 23-20 upset victory over third-ranked Michigan, giving the Bruins two wins over No. 3 teams in their three games this year. Mitchell caught 10 passes for 137 yards and produced nine first downs as the Bruins came from behind to claim the victory. The 10 catches gave Mitchell the fourth-best receiving performance in school history.
Mitchell, a Biletnikoff Award candidate, now has 20 catches for 286 yards (14.3 yards per carry) with two touchdowns in 2000. He has also thrown for a touchdown.
