GAME NOTES

Pullman, Wash. (Martin Stadium)
Sept. 21, 2019

UCLA recorded its first victory against a ranked opponent since taking down No. 18 Utah, 17-9, on Nov. 21, 2015.

Saturday’s game at Washington State marked the sixth time in the last seven seasons that the Bruins have opened the conference schedule on the road. Prior to Saturday’s game, UCLA opened on the road at Colorado in 2018, at Stanford in 2017, at Arizona in 2015, at Arizona State in 2014 and at Utah in 2013.

UCLA registered its second-largest comeback win in program history (32 points, trailing 49-17 in the third quarter). Previously, the Bruins had overcome a 34-point deficit in a victory over Texas A&M (45-44) on Sept. 3, 2017.

Dorian Thompson-Robinson set a school record for most yards of total offense with his 564 yards (he totaled 507 yards passing and 57 yards rushing). UCLA’s previous single-game record-holder was Cade McNown with 515 yards versu Miami in 1998. Thompson-Robinson became the third Bruin to hit the 500-yard mark for total offense in one game.

Dorian Thompson-Robinson threw for a career-high 507 passing yards on Saturday night. That total ranks third on UCLA’s all-time list, behind 513 from Cade McNown (against Miami on Dec. 5, 1998) and 510 by Drew Olson (against Arizona State on Nov. 12, 2005).

Dorian Thompson-Robinson’s five touchdown passes tie him for second on the all-time school list behind Drew Olson, who tossed six scoring passes against Oregon State on Oct. 22, 2005

UCLA’s 94-yard pass play from Dorian Thompson-Robinson to Demetric Felton (third quarter) was the second-longest in UCLA history and the second-longest play from scrimmage in program history. The longest was a 95-yard scoring pass play from Wayne Cook to J.J. Stokes against Washington in 1993.

Demetric Felton’s 100-yard kickoff return in the second quarter was the longest by a Bruin since Ishmael Adams returned a kickoff 100 yards against Arizona State in 2014. The school record is a 101-yard return by Greg Jones at Oregon State in 1968. Felton’s return was the fifth in school history of at least 100 yards.

Kyle Philips’ 69-yard punt return for a touchdown was the first by a Bruin since Maurice Jones-Drew returned a California punt 81 yards for a touchdown in 2005.

The combined point total of 130 is the most by two conference schools in the same game since 119 were totaled in a Cal (60) at Washington State (59) game in 2014. It also surpasses the previous record for a game involving a conference team which was 127 in a 127-0 Cal win over St. Mary’s in 1920.

The Bruins registered 657 total yards vs. the Cougars. The last time UCLA had more than the 600 yards of total offense in a game was in 2017 at Memphis (633).

Demetric Felton (150) and Chase Cota (147) each had over 100 yards receiving in the game as well as career highs totals. It was the first time a pair of Bruins had surpassed the century mark in the same game since Theo Howard (119) and Jordan Lasley (128) in the 2017 Cactus Bowl game vs. Kansas State.

Bruins’ kicker JJ Molson moved past running back Gaston Green (1984-87, 248 points) into the top 10 of the all-time school scoring list at UCLA after his 31-yard first-quarter field goal for his 248, 249 and 250th points. He finished with 11 points on the night, climbing to 257 points and moving within three points of Chris Griffith (262), who stands in ninth place.
