Entering her second season as a UCLA volunteer assistant coach is Jessica Barnard. Barnard comes to UCLA after serving as assistant cross country and distance coach at her alma mater, Long Beach State.
Barnard wrapped up a stellar four-year career at Long Beach State in 2012. As a senior, she earned All-Big West honors after claiming the conference title in the 3000m steeplechase with a school-record 10:22.90. Barnard also won the event at the prestigious Cal-Nevada Championships and qualified for the NCAA West Preliminaries.
In addition, Barnard ranks sixth on the LBSU all-time charts in the 800m (2:10.13). She was a four-time Big West qualifier in the 800m and three-time qualifier in the steeplechase.
Barnard was also a four-year member of the 49er cross country team and established personal bests of 17:43.6 in the 5K and 21:21.3 in the 6K.
Barnard graduated from Long Beach State in 2012 with a bachelor's degree in communication studies. She also competes internationally in the steeplechase for the Philippines.
