Donovan Castro was an eight-time varsity letterman in basketball and baseball (lettered four times in both sports) at Lindsay High School in Lindsay, Calif.
He played point guard for the Cardinals as a freshman and sophomore for Central Section coaching legend Don Perales. His coaches for his last two seasons were Lance Cheatwood and Brett Kendig.
Castro led the Cardinals to an East Sequoia League Championship during the 2009-10 season.
His basketball accolades include the Mr. Basketball Award for most charges taken each season from 2007-10. He was also named his team's Defensive Player of the Year in 2009.
He garnered second team All-Orange Belt accolades in 2009 as well as second team All-Tulare County in 2010 while serving as a team captain. Also during his senior year of 2010, he was named the team's MVP and was also named the MVP of the East Sequoia League.
Castro was also named to the first team All-Tournament team at the Tulare Midwinter Showcase in 2010 and the 2010 Immanuel Holiday Tournament.
Donovan excelled on the baseball diamond as well where he played shortstop for head coach Eric Smith. His baseball awards include Honorable Mention All-League in 2007; second team All-League in 2008; second team All-League in 2009; first team All-League in 2010 and served as team captain during the 2009 and 2010 seasons.
In 2010, he won the Duke Award (coaches award for leadership) while being named to the All-Academic League teams in both sports all four years. He was named Lindsay's Cardinal of The Year in 2010.
