Scott Swanson enters his third season in 2015 as a volunteer assistant with the UCLA men's water polo team.
Swanson was a four-year letterwinner on the UCLA Water Polo team from 2005-09. In 2009, he served as team captain and helped lead the team to the MPSF title and finish second at the NCAA Championships. In 2009 he was awarded the UCLA James Puffer Award for Loyalty & Contribution. Swanson went on to play professionally in Perth, Australia in 2011 for the UWA Torpedoes. He scored 35 goals finishing 3rd on team.
Prior to UCLA, Swanson was a four-year varsity water polo and swimming letterwinner at Wilson High School in Long Beach under head coaches Tony Martinho and Klaus Barth. He earned CIF Southern Section Division I Player of the Year honors as a junior (2003) and captured first-team All-CIF honors as a senior. He helped lead Wilson to four consecutive CIF water polo titles (2001-04) and gained numerous high school water polo honors in 2003 and 2004, including first-team All-America and first-team All-Moore League honors, in addition to being named the Wilson High School team most valuable player.
Swanson started coaching with Stars & Stripes Bruin Water Polo Club in 2013 while finishing his first year assisting with the UCLA men’s water polo team.
As a swimmer, he earned high school All-America honors in 2003 and 2004 and collected Moore League and Wilson High School Most Outstanding Swimmer honors in 2004 and 2005. Swanson guided Long Beach Wilson to the CIF Division I Southern Section swimming finals in 2002, 2003 and 2004.
In 2011-12, Swanson served as the assistant coach with the men’s and women’s team at Harvard Westlake High School, helping guide the women to a CIF title in 2012. He currently works for Christian Charles Insurance Services as a commercial broker.
