    Volunteer Assistant Coach
Head coachย Kelly Inouye-Perezย has announced the addition of UCLA baseball alum and former Major League Baseball player Don Slaught as a volunteer assistant coach on the UCLA softball coaching staff.

"We are very excited to add Don Slaught to our 2019-2020 coaching staff,"ย Inouye-Perez said. "Don is a respected hitting instructor in Major League Baseball, and all levels of collegiate baseball and softball. Don is the owner of the hitting analysis program, RightView Pro (RVP), which UCLA softball has used since Sue Enquist was the head coach. He is also a partner with OnBaseU, which I believe will be a big part of our continued success with our lineup, as we are always looking to stay ahead of the game with the most current information regarding the biomechanics of the swing.ย As a Bruin alum, we welcome him back to the UCLA family,"

Slaught played on the UCLA baseball team for three seasons (1977-1980), holding a .342 batting average, 11 home runs, 80 runs batted in, 24 doubles, 16 stolen bases and 38 walks to just 25 strikeouts. He led the Bruins with a .428 batting average in '79, the second-best, single-season total in school history. Slaught, a member of the UCLA Baseball Hall of Fame, was named All-Conference in 1979 and 1980 on the field, while off the field, he was a 1979 CoSIDA Academic All-America selection.

His 16-year MLB career saw him play in 1,327 games with the Kansas City Royals (1982-1984), Texas Rangers (1985-1986), New York Yankees (1987-1989), Pittsburgh Pirates (1990-1995), California Angels (1996), Chicago White Sox (1996) and San Diego Padres (1997). He hit .283 in over 4,000 at-bats, recording 77 homers, 476 RBI, 311 walks, 235 doubles and 28 triples. Slaught played in four postseasons, including three straight ('90-'92) with the Pirates.ย

Slaught spent two seasons as the hitting coach for the Detroit Tigers (2005-2006). The Long Beach native is the founder and owner of RightView Pro, the first video analysis system for baseball and softball licensed by Major League Baseball, the MLB Players Association and National Pro Fastpitch. Slaught is also a partner in OnBaseU, an educational organization dedicated to the study of how the human body functions in relation to baseball and softball.
