David Wood was named Assistant Athletic Performance Coach at UCLA in September 2012. Coach Wood is currently the UCLA's Womenโ€™s Basketball Athletic Performance Coach and also spent one year (2012-2013) working with the men's and women's golf teams.

Coach Wood is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, in addition to holding a Level 1 Certification through the Titleist Performance Institute. He earned an undergraduate degree in kinesiology at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo (SLO) in 2005 and added a Master's of Art, Education degree from the University of Alabama, Birmingham in 2009. Prior to joining the UCLA staff, Coach Wood spent three and a half years as the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach at Cal Poly, SLO, where he was in charge of 20 Division I intercollegiate teams. Coach Wood previously worked at the University of Alabama, Birmingham as a strength and conditioning graduate assistant while completing his Masterโ€™s. While at UAB, his primary responsibilities were overseeing the strength and conditioning program for the menโ€™s and womenโ€™s tennis teams. He also worked with the development and implementation of programs for football, softball, baseball, menโ€™s and womenโ€™s basketball, menโ€™s and womenโ€™s soccer and volleyball. Coach Wood also helped publish his thesis, โ€œPotentiation of Concentric Force and Acceleration only during the Stretch-Shortening Cycleโ€ with UAB professors in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research in 2012.

Coach Wood, a Southern California native, spent a year with Velocity Sports Performance, training professional and collegiate athletes with a direct focus on baseball, soccer, football, volleyball and basketball. Wood also spent time as a volunteer intern at various universities, including UCLA and Cal Poly, SLO.
