Abby Van Winkle ended the season with an overall record of 13-2 and a career record of 42-7... partnered with Savvy Simo for the entire 2020 season, all on court one ... the duo helped the top-ranked Bruins to a 5-1 weekend at the Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Beach Classic and was named the Pac-12 Pair of the Week (Feb. 25), with all five wins coming against ranked teams before closing out the opening weekend with a hard-fought 3-2 decision against then-No. 3 LSU ... they took down 2019 first team AVCA All-Americans Claire Coppola/Kristen Nuss from LSU in straight sets in the first meeting but lost in three sets the second time around ... the duo was named Pac-12 Pair of the Week for the second time on Mar. 10 after helping the second-ranked Bruins to a 4-0 weekend at the Pac-12 South Tournament which included wins over two ranked opponents as UCLA defeated Oregon, Washington, No. 5 USC, and No. 19 Arizona State ... the pair won all four matches in straight sets at the tournament, allowing only one opponent to score more than 16 points in just one of the eight sets as their wins on court one clinched the team dual victory over ASU (Mar. 7) and Oregon (Mar. 8) ... the Bruins faced 11 ranked opponents in the 15 duals in the shortened season with Van Winkle going 9-2 against ranked teams ... recorded a season-best winning streak of six consecutive duals which was still alive at the end of the season ... the pair also clinched a team-high four victories in dual matches on the year for the Bruins ... the duo went 11-1 in two-set matches and 2-1 in three-set matches on the year.
2019
Ended the season with a career record of 29-5 ... named to the NCAA All-Tournament Team and to the Pac-12 All-Freshman Team ... ended the season with an overall record of 29-5 going 25-5 with Zana Muno and 4-0 with Lindsey Sparks (all on court four) ... with Muno, she went 22-5 on court three, 2-0 on court two and 1-0 on court four, including going 3-2 in the postseason (0-2 in Pac-12 and 3-0 in NCAAs) ... she and Muno clinched the final point in the NCAA Championship win (3-0) over top-seeded USC ... the Bruins faced 32 ranked opponents in the 38 duals with Van Winkle going 25-5 against ranked teams ... Van Winkle clinched four victories in dual matches on the year for the Bruins (all with Muno) ... Van Winkle was 20-2 in two-set matches (15-2 on court three, 4-0 on court four, and 1-0 on court two) and was 8-3 in three-set matches (7-3 on court three and 1-0 on court two) ... recorded a season-best winning streak of 24 consecutive duals during the season with Muno and Sparks which started with the season opener (Feb. 21) and came to an end with No. 12 California at the Pac-12 North Tournament at Stanford (Apr. 6).

Van Winkle was a four-year letterwinner as an outside hitter on the indoor team at Santa Margarita Catholic High School ... In 2018, Van Winkle paired up with incoming Bruin Piper Monk-Heidrich to take first in the AVPFirst National Championships (150 teams qualified for championships) ... also paired with Monk-Heidrich to place second in the AAU Junior Olympics, second at AAU Nationals, third at the AAU Pan Pacific Championship and first at the AVPNext Tournament ... was named as an AVCA High School Beach First Team All-American in 2018 ... led the Eagles to three-straight Trinity League Championships (2014-16) and she was named to the 2016 Trinity All-League team as SMCHS finished as CIF Champions ... the Eagles also won the 2017 CIF Division I state championship after sweeping James Logan HS, 25-19, 25-12, 25-13 to finish 34-9 on the year ... while competing for the LA Beach and WAVE Club Teams, she took first place in Los Angeles ICG, first place in club championship LA Beach and was part of the first team to win the AAU Triple Crown (Junior Nationals, Junior Olympics and Best of the Beach) with incoming Bruin Lindsey Sparks ... finished as the AAU Pan-Pacific Champion in 2017 and as the runner-up in 2018 ... also in 2018, she finished as the Cal Cup State Champion, the AVPNext Champion and the AVPFirst Champion (2 events) ... also has first-place finishes in AAU, CBVA, JBVL and USA National Tournaments and has a rating of AAA ... additionally, she has one first- and two second-place finishes in AVPFirst National Championships.
