Dr. Lindsey Slavin joined us in August 2025 as our newย Postdoctoral Fellowย for Student-Athlete Mental Health. In her role, she provides mental health and performance optimization services to UCLAโs student-athletes, including individual counseling, team programming, liaison support, consultations to staff, and psychological assessment.ย

Lindsey earned her bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Miami, where she collaborated with neuroscientist, Dr. Amishi Jha, on studies evaluating mindfulness-based attention training to improve cognitive performance and psychological well-being in high-stress populations, including Special Operations Forces and elite athletes. Lindsey went on to complete her master's degree and Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology with a dual specialization in Sport and Performance Psychology and Child and Family Psychology from the University of North Texas. During her doctoral training, Lindsey served as a Sport Psychology Consultant for several Division I and II teams across a wide range of sports, providing mental health and performance optimization services for individual athletes, coaches/athletic staff, and teams. Before becoming a Bruin, Lindsey completed her predoctoral internship at Stanford University with an emphasis in eating disorders and substance use concerns.

Lindsey's clinical interests include student-athlete mental health and performance optimization, identity development, multicultural family and athletic systems, interpersonal relationships, and anxiety and mood disorders. Lindsey's clinical orientation is relational in nature and grounded in multicultural attunement, recognizing and valuing the nuanced interplay of one's identities, lived experiences, and family/support systems in shaping their story. Lindsey integrates evidence-based approaches, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Interpersonal Process Therapy, within a collaborative, developmentally tailored framework. In her work with teams, Lindsey cultivates areasย such as cohesion, communication, and awareness, to optimize collective performance and well-being.

Outside of her professional work, Lindsey enjoys spending time outdoors and being with animals.
