Las Vegas, Nev. - The second-ranked UCLA men's soccer team remained undefeated in MPSF play, defeating UNLV 6-1 in Las Vegas.
Junior forward McKinley Tennyson, Jr. scored UCLA's first goal at 10:27 on a breakaway on the right side. After UNLV's Jason Melendez tied it up at 20:59, Tennyson scored the game-winner at 33:13 on a chip shot over Rebel keeper Bojo Ackah.
UCLA, now 10-1-0 overall and leading the MPSF at 3-0-0, came out of the break with a 2-1 lead, and went to work quickly, scoring just 22 seconds into the second period. Shea Travis drove in a long, crossing ball from Sasha Victorine to put UCLA up 3-1 and break the Rebels' game plan.
The Bruins poured it on in the game's last 20 minutes, scoring three times and constantly keeping UNLV off balance. Senior forward Martin Bruno scored at 70:56, taking an Adam Cooper pass and heading the ball over Ackah. Ryan Futagaki got into the action at 72:25, blasting a rocket from the right side. Bruno ended the scoring barrage in the 84th minute, scoring his second goal of the game, unassisted. UCLA outshot the Rebels 21-8.
UCLA will next face New Mexico in Albuquerque on Sunday, Oct. 15 at 2:00 pm. The Lobos upset No. 18 Cal State Fullerton 2-0 Friday night to help put UCLA in sole possession of first place in the league.
