Women's Golf Captures Rainbow Wahine Fall Classic

KAPOLEI, Hawaii- Junior Laura Moffat won her first collegiate tournament and UCLA won its first team title in three years Wednesday as the Bruins outlasted Oregon to win the Rainbow Wahine Fall Classic at the Kapolei Golf Resort on Oahu.
The Bruins, ranked 25th nationally, increased their two-stroke advantage at the start of the day and won by six shots, posting a 54-hole team total of 923. Oregon finished second at 929, followed by Arkansas at 931, BYU at 941 and Oregon State at 945.
UCLA's team title was the first for rookie coach Carrie Leary.
Moffat, tied for sixth with teammate Amanda Moltke-Leth at the start of the day, matched her teammate's score of 74 over the par-72, 5,900-yard course. Hawaii's Melanie Matsunagi also tied with Moffat and Moltke-Leth at 226. In the ensuing two-hole playoff, Moffat birdied the second hole to win the tournament.
UCLA's other individuals finished as follows: junior Leilani Bagby shot an 81 to finish at 234, freshman Vivan Phosomran shot an 83 for a 242 total and junior Alicia Um posted an 88 for a total of 254.
