LOS ANGELES- The UCLA men's golf team, ranked 22nd in the latest MasterCard poll, posted a second round team score of 278 Saturday and improved to fifth place at the GolfWorld Palmetto Dunes Invitational.

UCLA sophomore Parker McLachlin carded a six-under par score of 66 and is tied for ninth individually at 137 (71-66).

The Bruins began the day tied for sixth place with Houston before posting their 10-under par team total, their best team score of the season. UCLA trails first place Georgia Tech and No. 8 Georgia by seven shots. The fourth-ranked Hornets carded a team score of 273, 15-under par, while the Bulldogs recorded a score of 275. Both squads lead the field with 36-hole totals of 554, 22-under par.

Tenth-ranked South Carolina is third at 555, followed by No. 20 Texas at 560. After blistering the Arthur Hills Course in 16-under par on Friday, the Longhorns shot par 288 in the second round.

In addition to McLachlin, two other Bruins remain under par. Senior Jason Semelsberger is tied for 11th at six-under par 138 (68-70) and senior Brandon DiTullio is tied for 37th at one-under 143 (73-70). Junior Jeff McGraw is tied for 44th at even par 144 (71-73) and junior Ross Fulgentis is tied for 63rd at 147 (75-72).

Georgia's Erik Compton fired his second straight 66 Saturday and leads the individuals at 12-under par 132, followed by UNLV's Jeremy Anderson, who shot an eight-under par 64 and is tied for second at 134 with Clemson's Luke Glover.
