Fresno, Calif. - Julie Marshall's sacrafice fly for an RBI in the bottom of the third inning, gave UCLA its only run of the game, helping the No. 1 Bruins (19-0) edge No. 6 DePaul 1-0 in the opening day of competition at the Fresno State Softball Classic.

Following a Christie Ambrosi leadoff double and an Amanda Freed sacrifice bunt that moved Ambrosi to third, Marshall hit a deep fly ball to centerfield, scoring Ambrosi from third base for UCLA's first and only run of the game.

Bruin pitcher Courtney Dale didn't need much of a cushion however, pitching seven scoreless innings, giving up just two hits. With the victory, Dale improved to 9-0 while registering her fourth shutout of the season.

Stacey Nuveman and Ambrosi were UCLA's top performers at the plate Thursday, with Nuveman finishing 2-for-3 with a double and Ambrosi going 2-for-2 with a double and a run scored.

Next up for No. 1 UCLA will be a pair of games on Friday as the Bruins face Long Beach State at 11:00 a.m. and No. 19 Oregon State at 1:00 p.m.
