
Top-seeded Softball Ousts Defending Champ Fresno State

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - After separating her shoulder in UCLA 3-2 victory over DePaul on Thursday, Bruin third baseman Julie Adams returned to the diamond on Friday to go 2-for-2, scoring the game-winning run, as the UCLA softball team knocked off No. 4 seed and defending champion Fresno State 1-0 at the 1999 Women's College World Series. The Bruins will play Sunday in the first semifinal against an opponent to be determined. The game can be seen live on ESPN 2 at noon CST.
UCLA broke a scoreless game in the top of the seventh when Fresno State first baseman Jamie Maxey commited on a high chopper from Bruin Courtney Dale. The ball went off her glove and into right field, allowing Adams to score from second base.
UCLA's Amanda Freed held a one run lead going into the bottom of the seventh. She went on to retire the side in order, finishing with a season-high 11 strikeouts whil picking up her 26th win of the season.
Christie Ambrose, who was Thursday's hero with two clutch RBI in the win over DePaul, went 2-for-3.
