WOMEN'S BASKETBALL:
Jaline Bradley, 5-7 point guard from Channel Islands HS in Oxnard, CA. Honorable mention USA Today and Street & Smith All-American. Considered one of the top point guards in the state and possibly the quickest player in the West. 1999 All-State and All-CIF selection.
Natalie Jarrett, 6-1 forward from Eastmont HS in East Wenatchee, WA. An All-State selection who is an outstanding all-around athlete. She also excels in volleyball. USA Today and Street & Smith honorable mention All-American.
Nicole Kaczmarski, 5-11 guard from Sachem HS in Holtsville, NY. 1998-99 Gatorade National HS Player of the Year. First-team All-American in all publications. Player of the Year in her area since she was an eighth grader.
BASEBALL:
Ryan Christianson, catcher from Arlington HS in Riverside, CA. Regarded as top catching prospect in the West and a likely first-round pick in the upcoming major league draft. A top hitter and fielder, he was a pre-season All-State selection.
Mike Kunes, left-handed pitcher from Chatsworth HS in Chatsworth, CA. Led high school to 1998 L.A. City Finals and was the L.A. City Player of the Year. He is also strong hitter. Selected to the California All-State team.
MEN'S GOLF:
Travis Johnson, Bellflower HS in Bellflower, CA. He is considered one of the top 10 players in the nation and one of the top three in the West. Had an excellent summer of competition on the AJGA circuit.
J.T. Kohut, Westlake HS, lives in Simi Valley, CA. He is considered one of the top five players in the nation and one of the top three in the West. Had a strong summer of competition on the AJGA circuit.
WOMEN'S GOLF:
Bridget Dwyer, Punahou HS, lives in Kailua, Hawaii. Considered the No. 1 golfer in the state. A 4.0 honor student.
Vivan Phosomran, Millikan HS in Long Beach, CA. She was the 1996 Southern California Junior Girl's Golfer of the Year. She has won several local tournaments and is considered one of the top three recruits in the state this year.
WOMEN'S GYMNASTICS:
Alyssa Beckerman, Elite Gymnast from Wyoming HS in Cincinnati, OH after moving from New Jersey for gymnastics. Regarded as one of the top three prospects in America after finishing in top 10 at the USA Championships last summer. She will likely defer her enrollment until 2000-2001 to train for the 2000 Olympics in Australia.
Sarah Deegan, Elite Gymnast from Oshawa Ontario,Canada. She is a member of Canadian National Team (1997 all-around champion) and also candidate for 2000 Olympic Team. She has done well in various international competitions and should be impact gymnast in college.
Malia Jones, Elite Gymnast from Reed HS in Sparks, NV. She is considered one of the top five collegiate prospects on the West Coast this year.
Kristen Maloney, Elite Gymnast from Pen Argyl HS in Allentown, Pennsylvania. She is currently rated the No. 1 gymnast in the United States after winning the USA Championships last summer. A leading candidate to represent the USA at 2000 Olympics, she will defer college until after the Olympics.
Kristin Parker, Elite Gymnast from Hanford Union HS, in Hanford, CA. The top senior gymnast in California, she has done well in various state and national meets.
Carlin Raab, Elite Gymnast from Seattle Prep in Seattle, Washington. Another talented gymnast, she figures to help UCLA in several events as a freshman.
Donielle Thompson, Elite Gymnast from Capital HS in Olympia, Washington. She was one of America's top gymnasts during the mid-1990s until injuries forced her to barely miss making the 1996 Olympic Team in Atlanta as a 15-year old. She is now back in training.
Leoandra Willis, Elite Gymnast from Wilson HS in Tacoma,Washington. She could be UCLA's No. 1 recruit for next season. She had a tremendous summer, winning the 1998 Junior Olympic National Championship.
MEN'S SOCCER:
Carl Frazelle, midfielder from Bella Vista HS in Folsom, CA. He is an All-CIF selection and State Cup player who could contribute as freshman.
Kyle Julian, forward from Del Campo HS in Carmichael, CA. A member of the USA Junior National team since the age of 15, he has played in numerous regional tournaments. A Soccer America Top 25 recruit and probably UCLA's top signee this year.
Scot Thompson, defender from Trabuco Hills HS in Rancho Santa Margarita, CA. He is a very fast player who continues to develop on state youth teams. A Soccer America Top 25 recruit.
WOMEN'S SOCCER:
Emily Koch, goalkeeper from South Torrance HS in Torrance, CA. She is a two-time All-CIF selection who led team to 1998 CIF title. An outstanding player, she will contend for immediate playing time as a freshman.
Jessica Winton, forward from Westminster School in Atlanta, Georgia. An All-area selection who scored 48 goals as a junior All-American, she has been the top scorer on her team in both high school and club ball. She possesses the offensive ability to help as a freshman.
Tracey Winzen, Midfielder-Defender from Mater Dei HS in Yorba Linda, CA. An All-CIF player who can play multiple positions, she is perhaps UCLA's top recruit because of her versatility and overall talent and could play as a freshman.
SOFTBALL:
Toria Auelua, Catcher from Pacificia HS in Garden Grove, CA. Considered perhaps the No. 1 all-around prospect in nation, she is an outstanding hitter and fielder. Named to USA Junior National Team, she led her high school to two CIF titles as the catcher for current UCLA freshman pitcher Amanda Freed.
Monique Mejia, Infielder from Santiago HS in Corona, CA. She led her team to CIF finals last year and play second base, third base or shortstop. An outstanding hitter, she was an All-State selection last year.
Tairia Mims, Infielder-Catcher from Salpointe Catholic HS in Tucson, AZ. The top power hitter in the state of Arizona, she was selected to the USA Junior National Team.
Natasha Watley, shortstop from Woodbridge HS in Irvine, CA. She could be tastest player in UCLA history. She has a chance to break the all-time CIF records for hits and stolen bases this season. An outstanding all-around player who will be an impact freshman.
SWIMMING:
Elizabeth Boehm, middle distance freestyler from Amador Valley HS in Pleasanton, CA. Her best events are 200- and 500-meter freestyle races.
Leanne Cadag, backstroker from Seattle Prep HS in Seattle, WA. Her specialty is 100- meter backstroke and she can assist UCLA in both medley relays.
Stacy Kearney, backstroker from Palm Desert HS in Palm Desert, CA. She is an All-CIF selection who continues to improve each season.
Jie Hyun Lee, freestyler from Mission Viejo HS in Mission Viejo, CA. She came to the US from Korea in the last year. She swam well in three freestyle events at recent Senior Nationals and is expected to help UCLA immediately in 200 and 500 freestyle and 800 free relay.
Erica Shugart, sprint freestyler from Carpinteria HS in Carpinteria, CA. She is a CIF champion who will help UCLA in 50, 100 and 200 freestyle and all relay events.
Erin Zehntner, freestyler/ butterflyer from Irvine HS in Irvine, CA. This is first year she is swimming full-time after splitting time as a strong cross country runner. Her top events are the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly. Her high school is the two-time CIF champion.
DIVING:
Regan Gosnell, 1-3-Platform diver from The Holton-Arms School in Potomac, MD. She is an outstanding junior national diver who has ability to be UCLA's No. 1 diver on all boards as a freshman.
Jennifer McNally, 1-3-Platform diver from El Toro HS in Lake Forest, CA. A strong local diver on all three boards, she has placed high in CIF Championships in each of the last two years.
Heidi Prosser, 1-3-Platform diver from Curtis HS in Tacoma, WA. A former national champion in gymnastics, she has only been diving for three years and has tremendous potential. She finished fourth at recent Junior Nationals in three meters and is a 4.0 student.
WOMEN'S TENNIS:
Sara Walker, Franklin HS in El Paso, TX. Regarded as one of the top three prospects in the nation this year, she will be an impact freshman and challenge for No. 1 singles and No.1 doubles next year. She did well in all 18-under events last summer.
WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD:
Stefani Clark, Distance Runner from East HS in Salt Lake City, Utah. Strong in both track & field and cross country, she qualified for Footlocker Regionals in cross country.
Jessica Marr, Middle Distance Runner from Hayward HS in Hayward, CA. Her strength is 800 meters, in which she has won several invitationals this season. She could also help the cross country team.
Lena Nilsson, Middle Distance Runner from Vallentuna, Sweden. The Swedish National Junior Champion, she has already run 2:04 for 800 meters and 4:18 for 1500 meters. She will have immediate impact in track & field and could eventually assist the cross country team. An outstanding student, she is 2000 Olympic candidate in her country.
Karina Powell, Javelin thrower from Mt. Whitney HS in Visalia, CA. The holder of the Junior National record in the javelin, she could be a Pac-10 scorer as a freshman.
Bridget Pearson, Pole Vaulter from Hoover HS in Glendale, CA. The 1997 California State High School champion, she has cleared 12-1.
Caroline Soong, Shot Put/Discus from North High School in Riverside. A CIF scorer in shot put and discus, she has thrown over 40 feet in shot and 140 in discus.
Julie Stevenson, High Jumper, from Diamond Bar HS, in Walnut, CA. The league champion and CIF scorer, she cleared 5-8 in high jump. She has potential to be a 6-0 jumper and NCAA scorer in college.
MEN'S TRACK & FIELD:
Daniel Ames, Shot Put-Discus Thrower from El Capitan HS in Lakeside, CA. The nation's No. 1 prospect in the throws, he has potential to be one of the greatest in UCLA history. The CIF champion in both shot put and discus, he has the potential to make USA Junior National Team in both events by next summer.
Kyle Erickson, Hurdler from York Community HS in Elmhurst, Illinois. Strong in both 110 and 330 hurdles, he should place high in both events at State championships.
MEN'S VOLLEYBALL:
James Morrow, 6-7 middle blocker from La Costa Canyon HS in Encinitas, CA. He is UCLA's top recruit this year. An All-CIF performer in San Diego and high school All-American in 18 and under championships, he has a chance to start as a freshman.
Richard Nelson, 6-3 setter from Alemany HS and lives in Simi Valley, CA. An outstanding setting prospect, he helped his team win the USA Junior National Title. An All-CIF selection, he could start if Brandon Taliferro goes to US National Team.
Chris Pena, 6-5 middle blocker from Santa Ynez HS in Santa Ynez, CA. He has helped his high school team to two straight CIF titles as its top middle hitter and blocker. He has potential to develop into strong college player.
WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL:
Lauren Fendrick, 6-2 outside hitter from Carlsbad HS in Carlsbad, CA. A tremendous athlete, she also starts on her high school basketball and softball teams. A Volleyball Magazine "Fab 50" selection who has played for the USA Junior National team, she will be given the opportunity at the open starting outside hitter position.
Ella Harley, 6-0 outside hitter from Archbishop Mitty HS in Santa Cruz, CA. She is an outstanding player who was a Volleyball Magazine "Fab 50" selection. A two-time first-team All-Northern California pick, she has a chance to start at outside hitter.
WOMEN'S WATER POLO:
Jaime Hipp, Goalkeeper from Edison HS in Fresno, CA. She has outstanding size (6-0) and her brother is goalkeeper on UC Irvine men's team.
Ashley Stachowski, Two Meter, from Capistrano Valley HS in Rancho Santa Margarita, CA. A starter for USA Junior National Team and a candidate for 2000 Olympic Team for Australia, she is considered one of the two top recruits in the nation. A versatile player who can play inside or outside and is strong on both defense and offense, she should contribute to varsity as a freshman. She was the 1998 CIF Player of the Year.
Maureen Flanagan, Driver from Punahou HS in Honolulu, HI. She is the top player in Hawaii and the first female water polo player from the school to play at UCLA. She has the potential to develop into a top college player based on her high school ability.
MEN'S WATER POLO:
Brandon Brooks, Goalkeeper from Punahou HS in Honolulu, Hawaii. He was Hawaii's water polo and basketball Player of the Year. A 6-7 player who could start as freshmen in water polo, he also has an interest in walking on for basketball.
Nicholas Pacelli, Driver from Villa Park HS in Orange, CA. A two-time All-CIF selection, he enjoyed a strong high school career.
