LOS ANGELES - Baron Davis, playing only because he publicly apologized for criticizing an official, dribbled the length of the court and hit a 17-foot jumper at the buzzer to lift No. 13 UCLA to a 79-77 victory over Oregon on Thursday night.
Davis also had a key steal with 22.6 seconds left that helped the Bruins (16-5, 7-3 Pac-10) tie the game after they trailed by four twice in the final 1:49.
The Ducks (10-9, 2-8) lost their seventh game by four points or less and haven't won at Pauley Pavilion since 1984, going 3-31 in that stretch.
Davis, who had 12 points and 11 assists, stole a pass from A.D. Smith and found Ray Young, who dunked to tie the game at 77 with 22.6 seconds left.
After a timeout, Oregon's Frederick Jones was called for a offensive foul, turning the ball over with seven seconds remaining.
That set up UCLA's final possession in which Davis dribbled down the court and hit a high, arching fadeaway, getting the ball out of his hands before the final buzzer.
Davis, a sophomore point guard, avoided being suspended by the Pac-10 on Tuesday by issuing an apology for criticizing referee Terry Christman after a loss to Washington two days earlier.
JaRon Rush led the Bruins with 17 points and Earl Watson added 16.
Alex Scales, a junior-college transfer, had a career-high 22 points for Oregon and Darius Wright added 15.
The Bruins led by six early in the second half, but Oregon chipped away and regained the lead, 49-48, on a basket by Jones. Neither team led by more than four points the rest of the way.
Jones' basket off a turnover put Oregon ahead 54-50 with 10:07 remaining. UCLA answered with consecutive 3-pointers by Watson and Ray Young to forge the first of seven ties at 56.
The game seesawed for several minutes with the teams exchanging two-point leads until Flo Hartenstein came off the bench to score two straight baskets and give Oregon a 75-71 lead with 2:29 remaining.
Hartenstein turned the ball over at the top of the key and Watson passed to Rush for a dunk to pull the Bruins within two with 1:49 to play.
A.D. Smith restored the Ducks' lead to four on an inside basket before Jerome Moiso hit only his second basket of the game to keep the Bruins within two with 1:02 left.
Rush stole a lob pass intended for Michael Carson under the basket, passed out to Watson, but Young missed a 3-pointer with UCLA trailing 77-75.
