
Bruins Keep on Rolling

LOS ANGELES - The No. 1 ranked UCLA men's tennis team registered its second Pac- 10 Conference victory of the weekend, defeating the University of California, 6- 1, at the Los Angeles Tennis Center today. With the victory, UCLA improves to 18-1 overall, 4-1 in Pac-10 Conference play, while No. 31 ranked Cal dropped to 7-7 overall and 1-5 in league action.
UCLA jumped out to an early lead claiming the lone point awarded for doubles play. The Bruins' team of Marcin Rozpedski/Chris Sands finished first, posting an 8-2 win over Cal's Chris Lewis/David Tzou on court No. 3. The Bruins clinched the point when the No. 6 ranked team of Jason Cook/Brandon Kramer registered an 8-1 win over Cal's team of Adrian Barnes/Chris Santoso in the top slot. The Golden Bears prevented the sweep as the tandem of Erik Dmytruk/Scott Kintz defeated UCLA's No. 19 ranked team of Jean-Noel Grinda/Jong-Min Lee, 8-6 in the No. 2 position.
In singles play, UCLA won the first set on four courts and also came back to win the match on a fifth. The first singles match to finish today was court No. 5, where UCLA's Kramer cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Cal's Lewis. The Bruins went ahead 3-0, when Lee posted a 6-2, 6-3 win over Kintz on court No. 4. Cal got on the board next with what turned out to be its only point of the afternoon as Barnes defeated UCLA's Cook 6-4, 6-3 in the No. 2 position.
The match was clinched when UCLA's Rozpedski posted a 6-1, 6-3 win over Cal's Tzou on court No. 6. Moments later on court No. 3, Zack Fleishman completed a three-set 6-1, 3-6, 6-0 victory over Cal's Dmytruk. The longest and closest match of the day took place on court No. 1, where UCLA's Grinda got off to a slow start and battled through stiffness in his shoulder to come back for a 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 win over Santoso.
UCLA continues its final homestand of the season on Tuesday, April 6, hosting Texas A&M at 1:30 p.m. at the LATC. The Bruins conclude the homestand next weekend hosting Pac-10 Conference foes Oregon and Washington on Friday and Saturday.
