Jaline Bradley
5-7 point guard from Channel Islands HS in Oxnard, CA.
Honorable Mention USA Today and Street & Smith All-American. Regarded as perhaps top point guard in the State and possibly the quickest player in the West.
Natalie Jarrett
6-1 forward from Eastmont HS in East Wenatchee, WA.
All-State selection, who is an outstanding all-around athlete, who also excels in volleyball. USA Today and Street & Smith Honorable Mention All-American.
Nicole Kaczmarski
5-11 guard from Sachem HS in Holtsville, NY.
Leading candidate for HS Player of the Year. First team All-American in all publications. Called 'Michael Jordan' of women's basketball by UCLA head coach Kathy Olivier. Player of the Year in her area since she was an 8th grader.
BASEBALL:
Ryan Christianson
Catcher from Arlington HS in Riverside, CA. regarded as top catching prospect in the West. Top hitter and fielder, who will likely be a top three round major league draftee come June.
Mike Kunes
Left-handed pitcher from Chatsworth HS in Chatsworth, CA.
Led HS to City Finals last year and was Player of the Year in LA City. Also strong hitter when not pitching. Made California All-State team.
MEN'S GOLF:
Travis Johnson
Bellflower HS in Bellflower, CA. Regarded as one of the top ten players in the nation and one of the top 3 in the West. Had excellent summer on AJGA circuit.
WOMEN'S GYMNASTICS:
Alyssa Beckerman
Elite Gymnast from Wyoming HS in Cincinnati, OH after moving from New Jersey for gymnastics.
Regarded as one of the top 3 prospects in America after finishing in top ten at USA Championships last summer. Will likely defer college until 2000-2001 to train for the 2000 Olympics in Australia.
Sarah Deegan
Elite Gymnast from Oshawa Ontario,Canada.
Member of Canada National Team and also candidate for 2000 Olympic Team. Has done well in various international competitions and should be impact gymnast in college.
Malia Jones
Elite Gymnast from Reed HS in Sparks, NV.
Considered one of the top five gymnasts available on the West Coast this year.
Kristen Maloney
Elite Gymnast from Pen Argyl HS in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Currently #1 gymnast in the United States after winning USA Championships last summer. Leading candidate to represent USA at 2000 Olympics. Will defer college until after 2000 Olympics in Australia.
Kristin Parker
Elite Gymnast from Hanford Union HS, in Hanford, CA. Top senior gymnast in California. Has done well in various State and National meets.
Carlin Raab
Elite Gymnast from Seattle, Washington.
Another talented gymnast, who figures to help UCLA in several events as a freshman.
Donielle Thompson
Elite Gymnast from Capital HS in Olympia, Washington. Was one of America's top gymnasts through the middle 1990's until injuries forced her to just miss making the 1996 Olympic Team in Atlanta as a 15-year old. Now back in training again and should be one of the nation's top college recruits.
Leoandra Willis
Elite Gymnast from Wilson HS in Tacoma, Washington. Could be UCLA's #1 recruit for next season. Had tremendous summer in proving that she is one of the nation's rising gymnasts.
SOFTBALL:
Toria Auelua
Catcher from Pacificia HS in Garden Grove, CA.
Regarded as perhaps #1 all-around prospect in nation. Both outstanding hitter and fielder. Named to USA Junior National Team. Led HS to two CIF titles as catcher for current UCLA freshman pitcher Amanda Freed.
Monique Mejia
Infielder from Santiago HS in Corona, CA.
Led team to CIF finals last year. Can play second, third or shortstop. Outstanding hitter. All-State selection.
Tairia Mims
Infielder-Catcher from Salpointe Catholic HS in Tucson, AZ. Top power hitter out of the state of Arizona. Also made USA Junior National Team.
Natasha Watley
Shortstop from Woodbridge HS in Irvine, CA.
Fastest player in UCLA history. Should break all-time CIF records for hits and stolen bases this season. Outstanding all-around player, who will be an impact freshman.
SWIMMING:
Elizabeth Boehm
Middle distance freestyler from Amador Valley HS in Pleasanton, CA.
Best events are 200 and 500 meter freestyle races. She was a national consolation finalist in the 200 and 400 free at Senior Nationals in March of 1998.
Leanne Cadag
Backstroker from Seattle Prep HS in Seattle, WA.
Specialty is 100 meter backstroke and can assist UCLA in both medley relays. She is a national qualifier in the 100 and 200 back.
Erica Shugart
Sprint freestyler from Carpinteria HS in Carpinteria, CA.
CIF Champion, who will help UCLA in 50, 100, 200 freestyle and all relay events.
Erin Zehntner
Freestyler/ butterflyer from Irvine HS in Irvine, CA.
This is first year she is swimming full-time after splitting time as strong cross country runner. Strength is 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly. HS Team is two-time CIF champion. She was a HS All-American in the 200 free and scored at Junior Nationals in August of 1992.
DIVING:
Regan Gosnell
1-3-Platform Diver from The Holton-Arms School in Potomac, MD. Outstanding junior national diver, who has ability to come in and be UCLA's #1 diver in all boards as a freshman.
Jennifer McNally
1-3-Platform Diver from El Toro HS in Lake Forest, CA. Strong local diver on all three boards, who has placed high the past two years in CIF Championships.
WOMEN'S TENNIS:
Sara Walker
Franklin HS in El Paso, TX.
Regarded as one of the top three prospects in the nation this year. Will be an impact freshman, who can challenge for #1 singles and #1 doubles. Did well in all 18 under events last summer.
WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD:
Julie Stevenson
High Jumper, from Diamond Bar HS, in Walnut, CA.
League Champion, who was CIF scorer by clearing 5-8 in high jump. Has potential to be a 6-0 jumper and NCAA scorer in college.
MEN'S TRACK & FIELD:
Daniel Ames
Shot Put-Discus Thrower from El Capitan HS in Lakeside, CA.
Nation's #1 prospect in the throws and has potential to be one of the greatest in UCLA history. CIF champion in both shot put and discus with potential to make USA Junior National Team in both events by next summer. Giving up football to concentrate on track and field at UCLA.
MEN'S VOLLEYBALL:
James Morrow
6-7 middle blocker from La Costa Canyon HS in Encinitas, CA.
UCLA's top recruit this year. All-CIF in San Diego and HS All-American and 18 and under championships. Has chance to play as a freshman.
Richard Nelson
6-3 setter from Alemany HS and lives in Simi Valley, CA.
Outstanding setting prospect, who helped team to USA Junior National Title. All-CIF selection.
Chris Pena
6-5 middle blocker from Santa Ynez HS in Santa Ynez, CA.
Has helped team to two straight CIF titles as the top middle hitter and blocker. Has potential to develop into strong college player.
WOMEN'S WATER POLO:
Ashley Stachowski
Two Meter, from Capistrano Valley HS in Rancho Santa Margarita, CA.
Starter for USA Junior National Team and candidate for 2000 Olympic Team for Australia. Regarded as one of the two top recruits in the nation. Versatile player, who can play inside or outside and is strong on both defense and offense. Should contribute to varsity as a freshman.
Maureen Flanagan
Driver from Punahou HS in Honolulu, HI.
Top player in Hawaii and the first female player from the school to play water polo at UCLA. UCLA has always had male players from the HS. Has potential to develop into top college player based on HS ability.
