Men's Golfers Finish Sixth at Carpet Capital Classic

The UCLA men's golf team finished sixth at the Carpet Capital Classic Sunday at The Farm in Dalton, GA.
High winds and cold temperatures caused elevated scores as no team in the field broke 300 on the final day. Host Georgia Tech edged ACC rival Clemson for first place honors by posting a 54-hole total of 870. The Tigers finished second at 871, followed by Georgia at 874, Florida at 883, East Tennessee State at 884 and UCLA at 891.
Only three UCLA players managed to break 80 in the final round. Freshman John Merrick posted the team's lowest score of the day, a four-over par 76 that enabled him to finish in a tie for 18th at 221. Freshman Steve Conway tied for 23rd at 222 after carding a final round 79. Sophomore Travis Johnson posted a 77 and tied for 31st at 224. Sophomore J.T. Kohut tied for 42nd at 227 and junior Parker Mclachlin tied for 51st at 230.
South Carolina's Kyle Thompson fired a two-under par 70 in the final round to win medalist honors at 208, eight-under par. Georgia Tech's Bryce Molder was second at 211, followed by Georgia's Nick Cassini at 212.
