Box Score

FRESNO, Calif. - The UCLA softball team lost a 1-0 game to host Fresno State on Sunday afternoon in the final game of the Hallowell Chevrolet Classic. With the loss, the third-ranked Bruins fall to 25-5 on the season.

The Bruins were the visiting team in this tournament game, and pitcher Amanda Freed opened the game with a hit off of her Bulldog counterpart Amanda Scott, but only advanced to second base before the end of the inning. She would prove to be the only Bruin to advance past first base in the game.

The Bulldogs loaded the bases in the bottom of the first, but were unable to score until a wild pitch with the bases loaded brought home Fresno State pinch runner Alejandra Roncancio with two outs in the bottom of the sixth. UCLA went in order in the bottom of the seventh, being shut out for the first time since a 1-0 loss to Washington on May 15, 1999.

Sophomore pitcher Amanda Freed had six strikeouts in the game, and set a new Hallowell Chevrolet Classic tournament record with 44 strikeouts throughout the course of the tourney. She was also named to the All-Tournament team for her performance over the six games at Bulldog Diamond.

UCLA will take next weekend off because of finals, and will return to action on Saturday, March 25 with a 1 p.m. exhibition doubleheader against the U.S. Olympic Team at Easton Stadium.
