BERKELEY, Calif. - The No. 33 Cal men's tennis team lost their second match in a row today, losing to UCLA, the top ranked team in the land, 6-1. With the loss the Bears fall to 10-6 and 3-5 in Pac-10 play while the Bruins move to 17-3 and 4-1 in league.

Things began well for the Bears as they took two of three doubles matches to capture the doubles point. Cal's junior duo of Scott Kintz and Erik Dmytruk, ranked 31st in the country, notched one of their biggest wins of the season, upsetting UCLA's fourth-ranked duo of Brandon Kramer and Jong-Min Lee, 8-3. The win gives the pair a team best 21-8 record on the year. Freshman John Paul Fruttero and David Tzou garnered the only other Cal victory of the afternoon at the No. 3 spot, downing Lassi Ketola and Travis Rettenmaier of UCLA, 8-6. The victory improves their record to 9-2 on the year.

In singles play, UCLA demonstrated why they are one of the favorites to win it all this year, sweeping all six matches to ensure a Bruin victory. Cal's Erik Dmytruk put up a tough fight at the No. 1 spot, taking the first set from No. 16 Jong-Min Lee before eventually falling, 6-7, 6-1, 6-0. The only other player to win a set for the Bears was freshman Robert Kowalczyk who lost to Jean-Julien Rojer, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 in the No. 4 spot.

The Bears will be back in action again on Tues., April 11 when they host Utah in a non-conference match at 1:30 p.m., at Hellman Tennis Center. The Bruins take the court again on April 14 when they travel to Oregon to take on the Ducks.
