WESTWOOD, Calif. - In the second match of the day, the second-seeded and host UCLA Bruins defeated University of Missouri-Kansas City 4-0 Saturday in the first round of the NCAA Men's Tennis Regional at the Los Angeles Tennis Center (LATC). With the win, UCLA advances to the Regional final, held at the LATC Sunday at noon, and will face No. 32 Notre Dame, who defeated No. 42 New Mexico State 4-0 in the first match today.

UCLA improves to 21-3 overall, while UMKC closes out the season with a 12-10 mark.

Despite playing without its No. 1 doubles player, Brandon Kramer, UCLA started the match off by claiming the doubles point, taking early leads on all three courts before claiming courts No. 1 and 2. On court No. 1, the No. 41-ranked doubles team of Jean-Noel Grinda and Jean-Julien Rojer bested UMKC's Divan Coetzee and James Nelson 8-1. On court No. 3, the duo of Lassi Ketola and Travis Rettenmaier defeated Alonso Tomas and Brian Takemoto of UMKC 8-3.

Kramer, who injured his wrist Wednesday, will not participate in the NCAA Tournament. As a result, junior Chris Sands and Kramer's regular partner, Jong-Min Lee, played in the No. 2 position. Grinda and Rojer moved up a spot to the top position. In singles, Sands moved into the No. 6 position, while UCLA's usual 3-6 position players each moved up a notch in the lineup after Kramer vacated the No. 2 spot.

In singles action, UCLA cruised to three straight set victories on courts No. 2, 3 and 5. Freshman Erfan Djahangiri clinched the match for the Bruins when he bested the Kangaroos' Yasuhito Minoda 6-0, 6-2 on court No. 5. Earlier in singles action, UCLA pulled ahead 3-0 after junior All-American Jean-Noel Grinda, ranked No. 47 in the nation, defeated UMKC's Angelo Vasilescu 6-1, 6-2 on court No. 2, followed by No. 64 Jean-Julien Rojer's straight set victory over James Nelson on court No. 3.
