UCLA sophomore gymnasts Kristin Parker (Hanford, CA) and Onnie Willis (Tacoma, WA) were selected to the Verizon Fall/Winter Women's At-Large Academic Second Team for District VIII, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Parker, an undeclared major with a 3.75 gpa, has had an outstanding 2001 campaign, recording career-bests in all four events (V - 9.95, UB - 9.975, BB - 9.95, FX - 10.0) and the all-around (39.675) for the top-ranked Bruins. The two-time All-American was an NACGC Scholastic All-American last season.

Willis, an undeclared major with a 3.55 gpa, has earned four all-around victories in her last five meets. She too has set several career-highs this year, scoring her second career 10 on vault, a 9.9 on the balance beam and her first ever 10 on the floor exercise. Willis was a three-time All-American last year.

Parker and Willis are two of only three underclassmen selected to the second team. No underclassmen were selected to the first team. Among the first-team selections was UCLA swimmer Katie Younglove (3.81 gpa, communication studies).

In order to be eligible for Academic All-District honors, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale), must be a starter or important reserve and be in at least their second season at their current school. District VIII includes schools in the states of Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington and British Columbia.
