UCLA Gymnastics Team Continues To Rake In Honors

Athens, GA - One day after winning its second consecutive NCAA team championship, the honors kept rolling in for the UCLA gymnastics team. At the NCAA banquet, Bruin head coach Valorie Kondos Field was honored as the National Association of College Gymnastics Coaches (NACGC) Coach of the Year, and Mohini Bhardwaj was given the AAI American Award for the nation's top senior.

Kondos Field's coach of the year honor was her fourth in six years. She previously won in 1996, 1997 and 2000.

Bhardwaj, who will end her career with 11 All-America honors and two NCAA team titles, becomes only the second Bruin to capture the American Award. UCLA's only previous winner was Donna Kemp in 1984.

In addition, former UCLA All-American and assistant coach Rhonda Faehn was chosen as the National Assistant Coach of the Year. Faehn in an assistant at Nebraska.
