Los Angeles - The third-ranked UCLA men's tennis team got one step closer to next week's NCAA Championships in Athens, Georgia by defeating Sacramento State, 4-0 this afternoon in an NCAA Regional first-round match at UCLA's Los Angeles Tennis Center.

The Bruins got out of the gate quickly as UCLA's No. 1 doubles team of Jean-Noel Grinda and Jean-Julien Rojer defeated Sacramento State's Sherif Zaher/Joseph Gilbert, 8-4. Following that win, UCLA clinched the doubles point at the No. 3 slot where Lassi Ketola and Tobias Clemens posted an 8-6 victory over Sacramento State's Sylvain Iff/Nick Sheehan.

The Bruins were just as stong in singles play, winning matches at court Nos. 2, 3 and 6. Travis Rettenmaier and Clemens cruised to straight set victories before Grinda clinched the match at the No. 2 position, defeating Sacramento State's Fabio Jesus, 6-2, 6-3

UCLA returns to the courts tomorrow to take on South Florida in the regional final. South Florida advanced to Sunday's final with a 4-3 win over South Carolina earlier in the day. Sundays' winner advances to the 16-team NCAA Team Championships in Athens, May 19-22.
