
No. 16 UCLA Dominates No. 24 Pepperdine, 6-1

Los Angeles - The No. 16 UCLA women's tennis team registered its second victory in as many days Saturday, defeating No. 24 Pepperdine, 6-1 at the Los Angeles Tennis Center. The Bruins, who defeated LMU, 7-0 in their 2002 season opener on Friday, improve to 2-0 on the year. With the loss, the Waves fall to 1-2.
After losing a total of five games in three doubles matches, the Bruins took a 1-0 lead heading into singles play. In the No. 1 singles slot, Bruin freshman Megan Bradley made quick work of Pepperdine's Veronica Koksova, winning 6-1, 6-1. Bruin junior Sara Walker was equally impressive in her match, defeating Alexandra Kujawska, 6-2, 6-0.
In addition to Bradley and Walker, both Lauren Fisher and Catherine Hawley notched straight-set wins for UCLA Saturday, while Bruin freshman Sarah Gregg needed three sets to dispatch of Monika Horvath, 6-0, 1-6, 6-2.
Pepperdine claimed its only point on the afternoon at No. 3 singles, where UCLA senior Petya Marinova withdrew from her match with Charlotte Vernaz due to a slight hamstring injury. Marinova won the first set 6-2 and Vernaz claimed the second set 6-3 when play was suspended.
The Bruins return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 30 when they host UC Irvine at the Los Angeles Tennis Center beginning at 1:30 p.m.
