LOS ANGELES - Bruin junior Tobias Clemens won two matches Friday to advance to the quarterfinals at the 2002 Icy Hot/ITA All-American Championships in Chattanooga, Tenn.

Clemens, the tournament's No. 2 seed, opened up the day with a 7-5, 6-2 second-round victory over Mississippi's PaulCiorascu. In afternoon action, he came from behind to defeat 15th-seeded Matt Hanlin of Washington, 2-6, 7-5, 7-5.

Next up for Clemens will be a meeting with seventh-seeded Danie Klemetz of Middle Tennessee State. Clemens will be looking to avenge a 6-4, 6-0 loss to Klemetz in the second round at last year's ITA All-American.

The Icy Hot/ITA Men's All-American Championships is not only the largest single tournament of this season in collegiate tennis, with over 300 competitors, but also the first of three national championship events at the Division I level during the 2002-03 collegiate tennis season.
