Varsity Eights Finish Eighth, Ninth at the Head of the American

Rancho Cordova, Calif. - The UCLA women's rowing team opened their 2002-03 schedule today, competing at the Head of the American. Under second-year head coach, Amy Fuller, the varsity eight (19:10) finished the competition eighth out of 21 teams, which included Pac-10 rivals Stanford and California. The UCLA junior varsity eight followed 9-seconds behind to finish ninth overall.
Stanford "A" finished the three-mile course in 17:14 to win the competition. Rounding off the top three were Cal "A" (17:44), and Cal "B", (17:51).
The Bruins were represented by a young varsity lineup, with one senior (Dawn Regan), three sophomores (Jessica Rogers, Monica Grova, and Brooke Jordan), and four true freshmen (Liz Pallas-Jacobs, Lauren May, Anja Wanberg, and Shannon Packer), composing the varsity eight.
In novice competition, the Bruins covered the three-mile course in 19:31 to win the Women's Novice Eight.
