Men's Cross Country
The UCLA men's cross country team finished ninth at the NCAA West Regional Championships in November after finishing sixth in the Pac-10 Championships a week earlier. Senior Bryan Green earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Championships, finishing 84th of 244 runners, just over two minutes behind the first-place finisher. Green was also named to the Pac-10 all-academic first team, while redshirt freshman Seth Neumuller was named to the second team.
Women's Cross Country - Rank: 17th - NCAA Finish: 21st
The UCLA women's cross country team finished 21st at the NCAA finals following a fourth-place finish at the conference championships and fifth at the NCAA Western Regional finals. Seven of the 249 individual runners were from UCLA, with freshman Carolyn Shea claiming the school's highest finish at 123rd. Sophomores Tiffany Burgess and Lena Nilsson received honorable mentions to the Pac-10 all-academic team.
Football - Record: 7-4 overall, 4-4 Pac-10
While posting the first winning record since the 10-2 season of 1998, the Bruins roused national title hopes by putting together a six-game winning streak that included wins at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Alabama and at home against Ohio State and Washington. UCLA ascended as high as third in the BCS standings, its loftiest ranking in three seasons. The Bruins also sent a conference-high six players to the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala.
Men's Soccer - Rank: 15th - NCAA Finish: T-9th - Record: 12-7-4 overall, 5-2-1 Pac-10
UCLA kicked its way into the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Championships before falling to top-seeded Southern Methodist, 1-0. The Bruins emerged victorious from the San Diego grouping after felling Loyola Marymount and host San Diego. Sophomore Alex Yi was named to the NSCAA All-American third-team, extending UCLA's streak of having a player named All-American to 19 years.
Women's Soccer - Rank: 5th - NCAA Finish: T-5th - Record: 20-3 overall, 8-1 (Pac-10 Champions)
After a 2000 season that saw the Bruins ascend to a second-place finish nationally, the Pac-10 Champion Bruins were defeated 1-0 by Florida in the Elite Eight of the NCAA Championships. Senior Mary-Frances Monroe was named a first-team NSCAA All-American, while fellow senior Stephanie Rigamat earned second-team honors.
Men's Water Polo - Rank: 2nd - NCAA Finish: 2nd - Record: 16-5
The UCLA men's water polo team reached its third-straight NCAA final before falling to Stanford. The Bruins received the at-large berth in the NCAA Final Four after finishing third in the MPSF Tournament. Senior Alfonso Tucay was named a first-team All-American, while two more Bruins, Brandon Brooks and Brett Ormsby, were named to the second team. Matt Flesher was named to the third team and Jeff Pflueger received honorable-mention honors.
Women's Volleyball - Rank: 9th - NCAA Finish: T-5th - Record: 21-9 overall, 12-6 Pac-10
For the third-straight year, the Bruins advanced to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament before falling to regional final host Long Beach State. The Bruins started and finished well, beginning the season on a 9-2 run and going into the playoffs winning seven of their last nine. The 3-0 loss followed victories over perennial powers Penn State and Hawai'i in the second and third rounds, respectively. Junior Lauren Fendrick was named a second-team Academic All-American.
