Grilli, Matkowski Advance to Pac-10 Semis

Ojai, Calif. - UCLA men's tennis players Rodrigo Grilli and Marcin Matkowski both won singles matches Friday to advance to the semifinals at the Pac-10 Championships in Ojai, Calif. Both are in opposite sides of the draw and are a win away from facing each other in Sunday's final.
Grilli advanced to the Pac-10 semifinals with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory over Arizona's Whi Kim. It was the third match in a row that he has dropped the first and had to rally to come back and win. Grilli will take on Washington's Matt Hanlin on Saturday. Hanlin was a 6-4, 6-3 winner over UCLA's Tobias Clemens.
Matkowski defeated Stanford's Ryan Haviland, 6-1, 7-5 on Friday. He advances to face Washington's Alex Vlaski.
The Bruins have three players remaining in the Pac-10 Invitational draw, as Erfan Djahangiri, Alberto Francis and Lassi Ketola were all quarterfinal winners on Friday. Djahangiri defeated Arizona's Arnaud Agniel, 6-2, 5-7, 1-0 (7) and Francis knocked off Arizona's Colin O'Grady, 6-3, 6-2. Djahangiri and Francis will meet in one of Saturday's semifinals guaranteeing at least one Bruin in the Pac-10 Invite final. Ketola will be in the other semifinal against USC's Ruben Torres. Ketola was a 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (4) winner over Washington's Dillon Ruby.
