College Station, Texas - Three UCLA men's tennis players dropped singles matches Thursday in the second round of play at the NCAA Men's Tennis Championships at Texas A&M University. In addition, the Bruins' top-seeded duo of Marcin Matkowski / Jean-Julien Rojer was upset in the first round of doubles play.

UCLA's Tobias Clemens, a 9-16 seed in the Championships, was upset Thursday by UNLV's Thomas Schneiter, 6-4, 6-3. Bruin junior Rodrigo Grilli also fell in straight sets, losing to Cal's (9-16) John Paul Fruttero, 6-2, 7-5. Matkowski won the first set in his match against San Diego State's Olivier Maiberger, but ended up falling in three, 5-7, 6-4, 7-5.

UCLA now turns its attention to the doubles draw, where one Bruin team is still alive. Clemens and Lassi Ketola won their first round match Thursday, upsetting 5-8 seeded Johan Brunstrom/Eric Cohn of SMU, 4-6, 7-6(6), 6-3. They move on to face Furman's James Cameron/John Chesworth in Friday's round of 16.

Top-seeded Matkowski/Rojer were upset by Tulane's Michael Kogan/Victor Romero, 6-7(2), 6-3, 6-4.
