LOS ANGELES - Four UCLA men's tennis players reached the semifinals in singles at the Sherwood Collegiate Cup Saturday, guaranteeing a UCLA player will take home the title for the second year in a row.
Top-seeded Tobias Clemens, who won the Sherwood title last year, was a 6-2, 6-0 winner over San Diego State's Ryan Redondo. He will next face Bruin senior Erfan Djahangiri in the semifinals. Djahangiri registered a 6-1, 6-2 decision over San Diego State's Felix Hardt.
In the other half of the draw, Rodrigo Grilli defeated USC's Johan Berg, 6-3, 6-3. Bruin junior Marcin Matkowski was a 7-5, 6-3 winner over teammate Chris Lam, who had upset No. 2-seeded Oliver Maiberger of San Diego State in the quarterfinals on Saturday. Matkowski and Grilli will face off in Sunday's semifinals.
In doubles play, Clemens and Lassi Ketola were the only Bruin tandem to reach the semifinals. They will take on USC's Prakash Amritraj/Daniel Langre on Sunday.
