LOS ANGELES - For the second time in as many years, UCLA men's tennis player Tobias Clemens claimed the singles title at the Sherwood Collegiate Cup at the Sherwood Country Club.

Clemens, a junior from Bonn, Germany and the tournament's No. 1 seed, defeated teammate Marcin Matkowski, 6-2, 6-1 in Monday's final. In 2002, Clemens registered a three-set victory over San Diego State's Olivier Maiberger.

Clemens' victory Monday capped off an excellent showing for Bruin players at Sherwood, as four UCLA players reached the semifinals in singles. Seniors Erfan Djahangiri and Rodrigo Grilli made up the other two players to reach the last four.

In addition, Bruin freshman Chris Surapol took second place in the round-robin consolation singles draw.

Top-ranked UCLA returns to action this Friday to host Fresno State at the Los Angeles Tennis Center beginning at 1:30 p.m.
