Bruins Trail by Eight Shots Entering Final Round

The top-ranked UCLA men's golf team trails by eight shots after the first two rounds of the MacKenzie Invitational, hosted by California at the Meadow Club in Fairfield, CA.

The Bruins posted a score of 554, 14-under par, in the first two rounds, but trail Northwestern by eight shots entering Tuesday's final round. The Wildcats blistered the course in 22-under par with a total of 546. In third place is Oregon State at 558 (-10), followed by San Jose State at 559 (-9) and Cal at 560 (-8).

UCLA senior Steve Conway fired rounds of 67-65-132 and has a three-stroke lead over Northwestern's Tom Johnson, who is in second place at 135 (68-67). Three players are tied for third place. The Bruins' Travis Johnson is tied for seventh at four-under par 138 after rounds of 67-71. Seniors John Merrick and Roy Moon are tied for 30th at 143, one-over par, and junior John Poucher is tied for 37th at two-over par 144.

Final round action continues Tuesday.
