Stanford, Calif. - Behind two first half goals, the No. 1 UCLA Bruins defeated the Stanford Cardinal, 2-0, Friday night at Maloney Field. With the win, their 11th consecutive, the Bruins improve to 13-1-0 overall and 6-0-0 in conference action, while the Cardinal falls to 2-11-2 overall and 0-6-0 in Pac-10 play.

Freshman forward Chad Barrett got the Bruins on scoreboard in the 28th minute, slipping a shot past Cardinal goalkeeper Robby Fulton for his seventh goal of the year. Leonard Griffin and Matt Taylor collected assists on the score.

The Bruins added an insurance goal in the 36th minute when Taylor crossed the ball to Mike Enfield, who found the back of the net for his second goal of the season. Cliff McKinley also collected an assist on the play.

UCLA outshot Stanford, 12-4, and held the Cardinal to just one shot on goal, which goalkeeper Zach Wells saved. Wells earned his seventh shutout of the year and lowered his goals against average to 0.39.

Taylor had his four-game goal-scoring streak snapped but still contributed to the win with his two assists, increasing his season points total to 31 points.

The Bruins will next face Cal on Sunday, Oct. 26 at 2 pm in Berkeley.
