
Tairia Mims Selected UCLA/MET-Rx Student-Athlete of the Week

Senior first baseman Tairia Mims (Tucson, AZ/Salpointe Catholic HS) of the UCLA Softball Team was selected as the UCLA/MET-Rx Student-Athlete of the Week, for the week of Feb. 10-17.
Mims had an impressive weekend at the UNLV Classic, hitting .647 (11-for-17) with a 1.471 slugging percentage. Of her 11 hits, seven were for extra bases, including three doubles, a triple and three home runs. She added seven runs scored and seven RBI, a sacrifice fly and a walk to the outstanding offensive numbers.
Against #20 South Carolina, Mims opened UCLA's scoring in the top of the first inning with a sacrifice fly and proceeded to go 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored with a home run. On Saturday morning against Hawai'i, Mims turned in a 4-for-4 performance with two RBI and two runs scored, a triple and a home run, leaving her just a double shy of hitting for the cycle. That evening against fourth-ranked Nebraska, Mims gave UCLA a 1-0 lead with a two-out solo home run in the third inning, and led the charge in UCLA's four-run sixth inning with a lead-off double, finishing 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI in the game.
UCLA completed tournament play against Utah, and Mims continued her impressive offensive weekend, going 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI, including two doubles and a stolen base.
This is Mims' first UCLA/MET-Rx Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and her career.
