
UCLA Falls to Hawaii, 3-1

The eighth-ranked UCLA men's volleyball team lost 3-1 to second ranked and defending NCAA champion Hawaii Friday night in Pauley Pavilion.
Hawaii won 22-30, 30-22, 30-24, 30-23 in one hour and 45 minutes before 990 fans. The victory raised the Warriors' record to 14-5 overall, 8-5 in league play. The Bruins fell to 13-10, 8-8.
Sophomore Jonathan Acosta led UCLA with 21 kills (.341), five digs and three block assists, and freshman Matt McKinney added a career-high of 16 kills. Senior Scott Morrow led UCLA with four total blocks and sophomore Gray Garrett led the team with nine digs.
Senior Costas Theocharidis paced Hawaii with 25 kills (.477), four digs, two blocks and an ace. Delano Thomas and Brian Nordberg each added five block assists. Overall, five players scored in double figures for the Warriors who won their fourth straight match.
The two teams meet Saturday night at 7 p.m. in Pauley Pavilion. The first 500 spectators will receive a free UCLA team photo. Prior to the match, UCLA will retire the jersey of Hall of Famer Denny Cline.
