LOS ANGELES - The fourth-ranked UCLA men's tennis team turned in one of its most impressive performances of the season Saturday, blanking No. 15 Washington, 7-0 in a Pac-10 showdown at the Los Angeles Tennis Center. With the victory, UCLA improves to 19-2 overall and 5-0 in Pac-10 play. Washington falls to 15-5 overall and 1-5 in conference action.
UCLA started the day strong by claiming the one point awarded for doubles play with victories on court Nos. 1 and 3.
In singles action, the Bruins won all six matches in straight sets. At the top two courts, UCLA's Tobias Clemens and Marcin Matkowski downed a pair of Washington players ranked in the top-30 in the nation. At court No. 1, fifth-ranked Clemens downed No. 26 Matt Hanlin, 6-1, 6-3. Matkowski followed that up with a 6-2, 6-2 decision over 10th-ranked Alex Vlaski at the No. 2 position.
Four other Bruins were victorious Saturday, as Rodrigo Grilli, Chris Lam, Erfan Djahangiri and Lassi Ketola all posted straight-set decisions.
UCLA rounds out the regular season next weekend at home against Stanford and Cal.
