The 10th-seeded UCLA men's golf team fell in the consolation championship match to 16th-seeded Penn State at the Collegiate Match Play Championships, hosted by the GCAA at the Mission Inn Resort in Howie-in-the-Hills, FL.

The teams tied 2.5-2.5, but the Nittany Lions won the tiebreaker four holes to three. Second-seeded Oklahoma State defeated top-seeded Georgia Tech for the championship, 4.5-0.5.

The Bruins' two victories came from sophomores Peter Campbell at No.1 and Chris Heintz at No. 4. Heintz won his third match of the tournament, defeating PSU's Marco Poccia, 2-up and Campbell beat Mark Leon, 1-up. Senior John Poucher halved his match at No. 5 against Rober Rohanna.

Campbell won his match with a birdie on the final hole after his opponent had tied the match with a birdie at the 17th hole.

Heintz, all square with his opponent at the 16th hole, won with a pair of pars on the last two holes. He finished the tournament with a record of 3-1.

Poucher was 1-up entering the final hole, but his bogey squared the match.
