
Bruins Tie for Sixth in Las Vegas

The third-ranked UCLA men's golf team tied for sixth place at the Southern Highlands Collegiate Championship, hosted by the Las Vegas Founders.
The Bruins posted a 54-hole team score of 871 and tied for sixth place with Georgia Tech. Arizona State won the tournament, besting top-ranked Florida by two shots. The Sun Devils finished at 16-under par 848 and the Gators posted a score of 850. Clemson was third at 859, followed by Georgia at 863 and Washington at 870.
Individually, the Bruins' Travis Johnson tied for sixth place at five-under par 211 after carding a final round score of 73. Senior John Merrick tied for 22nd at 217, one-over par, and teammate Steve Conway tied for 32nd at six-over 222. Junior John Poucher tied for 40th at 223, seven-over par, and freshman Peter Campbell tied for 57th at 11-over 227.
Florida's Camilo Villegas won medalist honors by one shot over top-ranked Bill Haas of Wake Forest. Villegas fired a final round 69 and Haas posted a 71.
