The third-ranked UCLA men's golf team was in second place after round two of the NCAA West Regionals at Sunriver, OR.

UCLA posted a team score of even par 288 Friday and trailed first place New Mexico by one stroke. The Bruins owned a two-round total of 571, five-under par. The Lobos were atop the leaderboard at 570. Arizona State, BYU and Arizona were tied for fourth place at one-under par 575 with several teams still out on the course.

Senior Travis Johnson, the first round leader, was tied for first place at five-under par 139. Johnson posted a one-over par round of 73 Friday and is deadlocked with BYU's Oscar Alvarez, who fired a two-under 70 in the second round.

Johnson, who posted a six-under 66 in a bogey-free round on Thursday, recorded just one birdie and two bogeys in the second round.

Junior John Poucher was tied for 5th place at four-under par 140 after posting a second round score of 71.

Senior Steve Conway posted an even par round of 72, followed by a pair of 73s from seniors John Merrick and Roy Moon. Merrick, four-over par after six holes battled back to one-over with four birdies and a bogey over his final 13 holes.

Final round action continues Saturday with the top 10 teams earning a berth to the NCAA Championships, June 1-4 in Hot Springs, VA.
