Richardson Places 18th In All-Around At Olympic Games

Athens, Greece - UCLA junior gymnast Kate Richardson (Coquitlam, BC) battled back from a rough first rotation to secure a Top 20 placement in the all-around finals at the Olympic Games in Athens, Greece. Richardson finished in 18th place with an all-around total of 35.786. Richardson had an uphill battle the entire competition after scoring an 8.087 on uneven bars in rotation one. After missing elements, she had a start value of just 9.2. The seven-time All-American did not give up, however, scoring 9.0+ on her final three events. She earned a 9.037 on beam in rotation two, which put her in 24th place. A 9.4 on floor exercise moved her up in the standings, and then she finished with a 9.262 on vault to move into 18th. The USA's Carly Patterson won the gold medal with a score of 38.387. Defending World Champion Svetlana Khorkina earned silver with a 38.211. China's Nan Zhang placed third with a 38.049. Richardson will conclude her Olympic competition on Monday in the floor exercise finals. Amongst her competitors on floor is fellow Bruin Mohini Bhardwaj.
